Detours after city intersection gets temporary closure

Work at King Street on the eastern edge of Hamilton has run into delays caused by “unforeseen contractor setbacks”, city officials advised, with a temporary closure in place at one of its junctions.

City Hall cited a “newly discovered infrastructure issue at the corner of King and Victoria Streets” but said it hoped to reopen the junction within 48 hours.

A statement said staff were working with a contractor for the project to resolve the problem.

The work at the intersections means that Happy Valley Road will be inaccessible tomorrow between 9am and 5pm, with no access from King Street.

Residents can reach the area via Curving Avenue and Deepdale Road instead.

Drivers will be able to reach Happy Valley from northern King Street as normal after 5pm. Access signs will be in place.

The city acknowledged “the frustration and inconvenience this has caused to nearby businesses, residents and commuters” and said it was in direct contact with those affected to provide “updates and support”.

Drivers were advised to enter or exit the city via Church Street or Front Street instead.
