A 16-year-old auxiliary cycle rider has died after a crash with a car on Parsons Lane in Devonshire on Thursday.

The collision happened at about 6.30pm near the Watlington Waterworks.

Police and emergency crews who attended the scene found an unresponsive male with a serious head injury lying on the roadway.

Emergency medical technicians immediately began lifesaving measures that continued as the teenager was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, but he was pronounced dead shortly after.

The male car driver was not injured.

A Bermuda Police Service spokesman said: “An investigation into this incident has now commenced and anyone with information is asked to contact Police Constable Kevin Medeiros on 717-2402 or by e-mail at kmedeiros@bps.bm.”

The death is the fifth road traffic fatality this year.

Christopher Famous, the MP for Devonshire East, said the teenager came from his constituency, adding that the community was rallying around his family.
