Lane closure in Smith’s to repair retaining wall

A lane closure with one-way westbound traffic flow is in effect along a section of Middle Road in Smith’s, the Ministry of Public Works and Environment said.

The closure along Middle Road, from Crow Valley to Store Hill, was to facilitate critical inspection and repairs to a compromised retaining wall in the area.

The ministry said westbound-only traffic flow will be in effect 24 hours daily and remain in place until further notice.

Eastbound traffic will be rerouted via Store Hill Road, North Shore Road and Verdmont Road to rejoin Middle Road.

The ministry said residents along the affected stretch — between Crow Valley and Store Hill — must follow the westbound traffic flow to access their properties.

Elsewhere, the ministry said, daily paving works will continue on Middle Road from Peak Lane to North Shore Road.

The works will result in a temporary single-lane closure on the eastbound lane between 9am and 4pm from Monday through Friday.

The ministry’s representatives will oversee traffic management measures through the use of cones, barricades and signage.

Motorists were strongly encouraged to use Harrington Sound Road and North Shore Road as alternate routes to avoid congestion.

The ministry thanked the public for their co-operation and apologised for any inconvenience the works may cause.
