Motorists were warned of traffic delays in Hamilton after a serious collision between a pedestrian and a light van this morning.

A Bermuda Police Service spokesman said first responders were called to Front Street between the junctions of King Street and Court Street at about 10.30am.

Officers believe the male pedestrian stepped off the curb and into the path of the moving van, where the vehicle hit him.

When police arrived, the man was breathing but unresponsive.

An ambulance took the pedestrian to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital to receive treatment for what were believed to be serious injuries, including a head injury.

Traffic leaving Hamilton was being diverted along Court Street, while traffic into the city will be allowed to pass through Front Street.

Motorists were advised to expect delays and use alternate routes where possible.
