A lane closure on Harbour Road is to continue from next week until further notice, the Ministry of Public Works and Environment has said.

The closure is between Chapel Lane and Lover’s Lane in Paget, and recommences tomorrow so that crews can assess a roadside wall that was damaged in a two-vehicle collision on Friday.

A spokesman for the ministry said: “This extended traffic measure follows a prior public advisory regarding an accident … that caused significant damage to a roadside wall. The continued restrictions are necessary to allow structural investigations to proceed safely.

“To maintain two-way traffic during this period, temporary traffic lights will remain in operation, with ministry personnel managing stop-and-go signs during the morning and evening rush hours.

“These steps aim to ease congestion during peak travel times, particularly for commuters heading to and from work.

“Motorists are advised that trucks with IN, HA, and HC licences, except garbage trucks, are strictly prohibited from using this section of Harbour Road due to the narrow lane width.

“Truck drivers should instead use Middle Road or South Road as alternative routes. These truck restrictions will be enforced as needed by the Bermuda Police Service.”

Motorists should expect delays and are strongly encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate routes wherever possible.

The ministry apologised for any inconvenience caused.

Traffic was disrupted on Harbour Road on Friday afternoon after a two-vehicle collision near the junction with Highwood Lane.

A spokesman from the ministry advised then that an emergency eastbound lane closure was in effect between Chapel Lane and Lover’s Lane.

The spokesman said the lane closure was to allow for “an urgent wall investigation”.

The Bermuda Police Service said the crash involved a light truck and a motorcycle.

Additionally, rush-hour traffic came to a standstill after an overnight crash on September 3 on Harbour Road.

Lengthy delays were experienced while crews worked on a utility pole that was damaged in the incident.
