A man has been arrested this evening after a collision between a bus and a motorcycle left another with serious injuries.

A police spokeswoman said that at about 9.30pm, police and first responders attended the scene of a collision on Somerset Road, near Heydon Gardens in Sandys.

The spokeswoman said: “Initial information suggests the vehicles were travelling in opposite directions when the motorcycle rider lost control of the vehicle, causing his passenger to be thrown into the path of the oncoming bus.

“The motorcycle passenger has been transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

“The male motorcycle rider has been arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.”

Traffic in the area was this evening being diverted through the Railway Trail using a one-way system and police warned motorists to expect lengthy delays while the scene of the collision is processed.

Anyone with information about the collision is urged to contact police on 211 at the earliest opportunity.
