Teenager recovering after two-vehicle collision
An 18-year-old man injured in a crash on Saturday night in Sandys was recovering this afternoon in hospital, police said.
A spokesman for the Bermuda Police Service explained that uniformed services responded to reports of a collision on Malabar Road, which happened at about 8.25pm near Woody’s Restaurant and Bar.
He said: “It appears that a male motorcyclist travelling in the eastbound lane of Malabar Road and a car driven in the opposite direction collided as the car driver attempted to turn in to Woody’s Drive.
“Members of the Royal Bermuda Regiment’s Coastguard initially provided treatment at the scene to the injured rider, followed by firefighters and paramedics.
“He was then transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for further medical care.
“At last check, the young man, understood to be an 18-year-old Pembroke resident, was said to be recovering on a general ward.
“Apparently, the car driver, believed to be a 50-year-old Southampton woman, was not hurt.”
The spokesman said that traffic was diverted in the area for about four hours while the scene was processed.
