Motorists reminded of parking restrictions near The Barn
Police will be asked to enforce parking restrictions near The Barn and issue tickets where necessary, the Ministry of Public Works and Environment has said.
A spokesman for the ministry said it is aware of continuing problems with illegal parking along Devon Spring Road in the vicinity of the charity shop.
About a month ago, the ministry installed “No Parking” signs in the area to address safety and traffic flow concerns, including making sure that there is access for emergency vehicles.
At the same time, the ministry said it cleared additional space to the north of The Barn and placed mill material to create alternative parking areas.
“Despite these measures, motorists have continued to park illegally along the fence line,” the spokesman said.
“The situation continues to be monitored, and the Bermuda Police Service will be requested to attend the site.”
Motorists were reminded that parking restrictions were in place for safety reasons and members of the public were thanked for their co-operation.
The Barn is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Christopher Famous, the MP for Devonshire East (Constituency 11), called this week for more enforcement by police of parking restrictions in the area.
A spokeswoman at The Barn said that the Hospitals Auxiliary of Bermuda, which runs the facility, will continue to look at ways to alleviate the congestion on sales and drop-off days.
She thanked residents for their patience, as well as police for addressing the issue.
