Parking got easier in the City of Hamilton with the continued deployment of its licence plate recognition system.

The technology, which automatically calculates parking duration and requests payment, moved into No. 1 Car Park on Monday.

It marks the third phase of the city’s “smart parking initiative”, which piloted in 2024.

The technology, delivered by Mobile Smart City, was said to be well received.

The use of cameras at entrances and exits of car parks also cuts out the need for tickets.

Parking enforcement officers for the city were on the scene this week to show drivers how the system worked.
