Dangerous potholes to be filled in the coming days

Hazardous potholes are to be filled starting tomorrow and through the weekend as weather conditions improve.

Jaché Adams, the Minister of Public Works and Environment, acknowledged that persistent rainfall had caused a number of potholes to reappear and warned motorists to take extra care while riding and driving.

In preparation for the works, road network assessments will continue throughout the rest of the week so pothole locations can be identified and marked ahead of the repairs.

Identified locations will be compiled into a working list for repair teams and there will be follow-up reporting to track completion.

Mr Adams said: “The recent rainfall has caused a number of potholes to reopen across the island, and the ministry is putting measures in place to respond in a focused and practical way.

“Urgent repairs and assessments are being carried out across the road network during the week so repair teams can move quickly on the identified locations once conditions allow.

“This is about dealing with the immediate problem while also improving how repairs are organised, tracked and completed.

“In the meantime, motorists are urged to take care on the roads, especially in wet weather, and to continue reporting potholes so the ministry can direct resources where they are most needed.”

The ministry is also reminding motorists to take extra care on the roads, particularly during and after periods of rain, as wet conditions can worsen existing road defects and reduce visibility of potholes.

Members of the public are encouraged to report potholes by e-mailing potholes@gov.bm or by using the Government’s GovAlert app.
