TCD to close early for Sir John’s funeral

The Transport Control Department will close at midday tomorrow in observation of Sir John Swan’s funeral service.

Arrangements are being made to reschedule affected customer appointments.

A service to celebrate the life of the island’s longest-serving premier will be held on June 24, at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity on Church Street, Hamilton from 2pm, followed by a private interment at St John’s Anglican Church cemetery.

Owing to limited seating at the venue, the family of the late former Premier have encouraged residents who wish to join in celebrating his life to do so via live stream at several venues in Hamilton.

They include Pier Six, the Cathedral Hall and The Earl Cameron Theatre.

The event will also be streamed via the Government’s CITV channel.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sir John’s memory to The Salvation Army.

The TCD will reopen and resume normal operations on Thursday. Members of the public were thanked for their understanding.
