Green Route ferry faces disruption
Ferry commuters in the West End face travel disruption this week after the usual Green Route boat Resolute suffered engine issues on Monday evening.
Only hours after the Government announced the resumption of the Pink Ferry route, between Hamilton, Paget and Warwick, a separate boat, serving those in Southampton and Sandys, encountered engine problems.
About halfway through the 6.20pm crossing from Hamilton to Rockaway yesterday, the ferry slowed to a halt.
It resumed at a gradual pace towards its first stop. Staff then told passengers that they would be required to disembark at Rockaway, with the boat unable to call at Cavello Bay and Watford Bridge.
This morning, at least one Green Route service operated using a different boat. However, it bypassed the Cavello stop.
Issuing an update, a spokeswoman for the Department of Marine and Ports Services, said: “The department is actively working to complete repairs on its ferry fleet.
“As a result, there will be service disruptions, including the cancellation of the Green Route’s 4.10pm sailing (on Tuesday). There will also be no service to Cavello Bay.
“The services to Green Route’s 5.20pm and 6.20pm Rockaway and Watford Bridge sailings will operate.
“At this time, the department anticipates that these service interruptions will continue into Wednesday morning.
“Updates regarding the resumption of service will be provided as soon as additional information becomes available.
“The department apologises for the inconvenience and appreciates the public's patience and understanding.”
The Green Route service typically operates two morning and three evening journeys, Monday to Friday.
