In the wake of concerns raised over traffic and pedestrian safety, the City of Hamilton advised that a permanent speed bump would be added to Angle Street in North Hamilton.

The work, outside the Angle Street Church of God, was said to be similar in design to the “traffic-calming measure” near the junction of Princess Street and Angle Street.

A section of the street will be closed temporarily from its junction with Court Street to the junction with Union Street.

A spokeswoman said the issue had been raised by the North Hamilton & Residents Committee. A temporary speed bump had been installed on Angle Street in January.

She said: “The permanent measure will feature a gradual profile, designed to encourage motorists to reduce their speed while allowing for a smooth transition for vehicles travelling along Angle Street.”

It will be closed eastbound at its junction with Court Street from 10am on Friday, with signs and barricades in place. The work is expected to be finished by 1pm, with access restored “as soon as the installation is complete”.
