‘Break out the big sweaters’ says weather service as gale warning issued

The Bermuda Weather Service has issued a gale warning for late tonight and tomorrow morning.

A post on the BWS Facebook page yesterday said: “A gale warning has been issued for late tonight and tomorrow morning.

“Gale force winds, rain and chilly temperatures are expected to start in the small hours of Saturday morning, lasting into late morning.

“While the air temperature will mainly hover around high teens Celsius (mid-60s Fahrenheit), the gusty winds and lower humidity will make things noticeably cooler on Saturday.

“So, break out the big sweaters and raincoats for the early part of the weekend. Saturday afternoon and Sunday will brighten up somewhat. ”

This morning’s forecast said winds this evening are expected to increase to 16 to 22 knots, rapidly increasing south-southwesterly 20 to 30 knots overnight.

Isolated to scattered showers will develop overnight with fair to poor visibility.

Tomorrow, southwesterly winds will increase to 30 to 40 knots, with gusts to storm force, especially in showers, veering northwesterly 25 to 35 knots by late morning, then easing 15 to 25 knots by evening and 12 to 18 knots late night.

There will be patchy rain and scattered showers with fair to poor visibility, clearing in afternoon.
