Riptide warning issued for South Shore beaches

Dangerous rip currents along South Shore beaches have prompted an urgent warning from the Department of Parks.

Swimmers today were advised strongly to use caution while at South Shore beaches, particularly Horseshoe Bay Beach in Southampton, and to heed any warning signs they may come across.

Lifeguards have erected red flags around areas too dangerous for swimmers.

Beach goers were also reminded that conditions could change quickly and render beaches partially or entirely closed depending on the hazards present.

Boat charters were told to inform their patrons of surf conditions and encouraged to monitor the Bermuda Weather Service for up-to-date information.
