Erin a potential threat to Bermuda as it falls to Category 3
Hurricane Erin is deemed a potential threat to Bermuda as the storm system was downgraded to a Category 3, the Bermuda Weather Service warned.
According to the BWS 6pm advisory, the storm was a Category 3 with wind speeds at about 127mph and gusts of about 155mph.
Hurricane Erin is about 766 miles south of the island and is travelling west-northwest at about 13mph.
The Bermuda Weather Service warned that Erin could strengthen to a Category 4 by 3am tonight, but is likely to weaken back to a Category 3 by Wednesday afternoon.
Hurricane Erin’s nearest forecasted point to Bermuda within the next 72 hours is at 6pm on Wednesday, when the storm will be about 440 miles west of the island.
