Belco works continue to fully restore power
Approximately 600 Belco customers remain without power following Hurricane Imelda yesterday.
A company statement sent shortly after 4.20pm said the hurricane left about 18,000 customers without power — and that crews had restored electricity to more than 17,000 households within 24 hours.
The statement added: “Restoration work is progressing steadily, though crews are facing challenging conditions.
“Extensive vegetation overgrowth across the island requires teams to trim back trees and branches before they can safely access equipment and begin repairs.
“The dispersed nature of the remaining outages means that individual repair jobs may restore power to only a handful of customers at a time, which extends the overall restoration timeline.”
Shelly Leman, Belco managing director, said: “Our crews are working diligently to restore every remaining customer as quickly and safely as possible.
“We appreciate the public's continued patience as we work through these final, more complex repairs.”
The statement added that temporary outages may occur as crews safely conduct repairs, which will affect outage numbers.
It also said: “Crews will continue restoration work until approximately midnight tonight and will resume operations tomorrow morning at 8am.”
