Tropical Storm Jerry has been deemed a potential threat to Bermuda.

The Bermuda Weather Service said in its 6am update this morning that the storm was expected to morph into a Category 1 hurricane by Saturday morning.

The BWS warned that much of the storm’s influence would be seen on Saturday because wave troughing to the south of the island would increase as Jerry moved closer.

The service added that skies would be cloudy for “much of the weekend”, with heavy widespread rain and showers on Saturday that could become thunderous.

Tropical Storm Jerry is just under 1,229 miles south-southeast of Bermuda and is moving west-northwest at about 20mph.

It is travelling with maximum winds of about 63mph and gusts to 75mph.

Jerry will be about 295 miles southeast of Bermuda at 6am on Sunday, when the storm is expected to be at it closest point to the island within the next 72 hours.
