Residents urged to prepare for ‘unsettled’ weekend weather
Residents have been urged to make preparations for high winds and cold temperatures this weekend.
The Ministry of National Security issued the advisory based on forecast by the Bermuda Weather Service.
The conditions began today and are expected to continue through the weekend.
Winds are expected to increase this morning to gale force with storm force winds of up to 70mph before easing in the afternoon.
Through the weekend, windy conditions and rain are expected while temperatures are expected to drop to as low as 49 degrees fahrenheit overnight on Saturday before extending with a high of 59 degrees and a low of 52 degrees on Sunday.
Weather conditions remain subject to change while the weather system is being closely monitored.
Michael Weeks, the Minister of National Security, said: “We are asking everyone to pay close attention to the forecast.
“As we saw last weekend, severe weather can cause disruptions, so residents and businesses should make sensible plans, secure their property where necessary, and avoid unnecessary risks.
“In particular, I urge motorists to travel with care if they must be on the roads.”
The ministry encouraged the public to stay informed by monitoring updates from the BWS at weather.bm and through official government communications channels.
Last weekend, thousands of Belco customers were without power after gale-force winds pounded the island amid stormy weather.
Power was eventually restored across the island by Tuesday evening.
