A powerful winter storm that brought blizzard conditions to the East Coast of the United States over the weekend forced multiple cancellations of flights to the island.

JetBlue, BermudAir, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and American Airlines operations were impacted.

BermudAir informed its passengers in a travel advisory that flight 2T301 from Boston and 2T241 from Newark today were cancelled owing to “weather conditions in the northeastern United States”.

Passengers were informed that arrangements were put in place for them to travel tomorrow.

The carrier’s flights from Westchester, New York as well as flights by its subsidiary, AnguillAir to the Caribbean island of Anguilla, were affected by the hazardous conditions on Sunday.

A JetBlue flight from Boston as well as American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines flights from New York today were cancelled as result of the deteriorating weather conditions.

United Airlines told The Royal Gazette today that its teams were “working proactively to get ready for this storm and take care of our customers and team members”.

The carrier said it was communicating schedule changes to customers as soon as they were known.

It added that it was making preparations for extreme winter weather and snow at its hubs in Washington Dulles and Newark.

New York City was under its first blizzard warning in nearly a decade, with widespread travel and power disruptions experienced by hundreds, AccuWeather reported.

It said heavy snow and damaging winds shut down travel for millions of people over the past 24 hours.

Intense winds and heavy snow affected residents across the northeast of the US.

Conditions pushed visibility towards zero, making travel extremely dangerous, AccuWeather reported.
