Write an essay on your vision for Bermuda's economic future Win a breakfast date with the Premier

Idea exchange: Winners of last years Business Bermuda essay contest had the opportunity to exchange ideas with US politician and chairman of the Democratic Leadership Council, Harold Ford Jr. the breakfast meeting preceding the Annual General Meeting.

As the future leaders of Bermuda, students are been invited to share their vision of the Island’s economic future, and describe the path to get there.Business Bermuda, an organisation of Bermuda resident service providers and international businesses, is excited to invite students between 13 and 19 years of age to participate in their Annual General Meeting Breakfast Essay Contest.Students must submit a 500-word essay in the form of an open letter to the Premier of Bermuda on the topic, “I want to ensure our future financial security, and this is how I suggest we can help Bermuda stimulate the economy.” Essays will be judged on content, the ability to support a position or argument and the correct use of grammar, spelling and punctuation.The top three essay winners will be awarded $300, $150, and $50 respectively. The five runners-up will be given special mention. The winning essay will be published in the Young Observer section of The Royal Gazette.Former contest winners held their own during breakfast and discussion with previous guests like journalist Roland Martin and US politician Harold Ford Jr., currently chairman of the Democratic Leadership Council. This year, all eight will be given the opportunity to have breakfast and discussion with Bermuda’s Premier Paula Cox at the private breakfast prior to the start of the Annual General Meeting at 8am on March 3, 2011. At the breakfast there will also be the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with Dame Jennifer Smith, Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly and Cheryl Packwood, Chief Executive Officer of Business Bermuda.“Every year, we receive thoughtful, well-written essays representing the wealth of intellectual ability here on the Island. I am looking forward to learning what ideas Bermuda’s young people have in response to our current economic situation,” noted Ms Packwood.All submissions should be typed, double-spaced in 12-point Times New Roman font, and include a cover page with the student’s name, address, e-mail, telephone number, birth date, class, and name of the school he or she is currently attending.Essays should be submitted by 4pm on February 22 via e-mail at essays[AT]businessbermuda.org or by hand to the Business Bermuda office at The Windsor Place, 1st Floor, 22 Queen Street, Hamilton, HM 11.Please visit www.businessbermuda.org for more information.
