Next Tuesday the Bermuda National Trust will be hosting its Annual Children’s Nature Walk at Spittal Pond between 9.30am and 12.30pm.The Nature Walk is a fun-filled, educational journey that teaches young people about the wildlife of Bermuda. It is where they can develop a great understanding of Bermuda’s natural habitat. The walk takes approximately two hours, walking almost four kilometres around the pond. The age groups are from years five to 12; parents can also join this journey. The groups will be leaving from the eastern parking lot every 15 minutes. Parking will be located in the field behind Harrington Hundreds Grocery Store. The Bermuda National Trust Children’s Nature Walk started over 30 years ago and attracts over 400 children each year. This year it is sponsored by Axis. Each year they have a team of over 40 volunteers to support this event. The staff include all specially trained guides and stations manned by local experts such as: David Wingate, Lance Furbert, Ruth Thomas, Steven and Nick Barton and Rob Chandler. This year they have a team of trained youth volunteers from CedarBridge Academy to be guides. The volunteers have studied the flora and fauna of Spittal Pond and have been selected as they are experienced. The Spittal Pond walk is not the only walk the Bermuda National Trust organises. It also conducts tours for all schools at Spittal Pond, Paget Marsh, and Somerset Long Bay. The school students learn about the natural environment around them. One of the largest open-air events hosted by the Bermuda National Trust is the Palm Sunday Walk. It is a special community event that continues to attract more families to take part in every year.
