The Saltus Senior Department Sports Day took place on Friday, April 11, after being postponed from the day before due to bad weather. The champions, for a second year running, were Watlington House. This was particularly momentous as Watlington had previously waited 17 years for last year's win. This year Saltus came in second, Darrell came in third with Butterfield in fourth.

Some of the longer events, such as the 3,000 and 1,500 meters had been completed in the days leading up to sports day to make sure there was enough time to get through all the events, but the day was still action packed.

The day started off with the first heats of the 100 and 200 meters. field events also started, with the long jump, high jump and shot-put. The entire senior department of the school was on the field wearing PE kit, with many showing off face paint or hair dyed in house colours, to cheer on their housemates.

Four tents were available for students to sit under and provided much needed shade on a hot day, while the parents could watch from bleachers on the other side of the track. Water and sports drinks were available in coolers at the finish line for competitors which all combined to make this a very enjoyable and exciting Sports Day.

During the morning break, the Watlington tent erupted with cheering after finding out the results of the races. Watlington were in first place with 125 points. They were followed by Darrell on 100, who were just ahead of Butterfield on 91. Saltus were in fourth on 85.

After the break, the events resumed with the 100 meter finals. Watlington continued their winning streak making it into the finals, taking both first and second in the races on a number of occasions.

This was shown when the results for the finals were given out during the lunch break. Watlington remained in first on 215 points followed by Saltus on 166. Darrell and Butterfield were in a fight for third on 148 and 144 respectively.

Following lunch, the relays started in both 100 and 400 meters. All competitors were enthusiastically cheered on by their houses throughout the duration of the relays. The relays continued up until three o'clock when the houses gathered in the centre of the track for presentation of the first place ribbons and medal for each event and the trophies for the champion boy and girl for each age group.

After the presentation, the final house scores were read out to an explosion of yellow as Watlington were declared the winners on 299 points, ahead of Saltus on 266. Darrell beat Butterfield to third after finishing on238 to the 206.

Head of Watlington, Ms Rachel Galvin, went up triumphantly with the house captains to collect the trophy for the second time in the last two years.
