This is how we empower ourselves

CedarBridge Academy had a Student Empowerment Day on May 17. We learned how to come together as a student body and do everything as one!We started off with a work out which consisted of a wonderful team building walk. The walk went from CedarBridge down along Montpelier Road, through Orange Valley, along Parson’s Lane, then to Old Military Road, and again past Parson’s Lane and back up to CedarBridge. Also, during the day and in preparation for upcoming exams, all students participated in sessions related to study skills, test taking strategies and effective time management. There was so much information which was given to us. For me, as a person who doesn’t study well, the sessions really helped and there is really so much you can learn about studying. There are four important things that stood out to me about the day’s sessions. First, ‘stay busy’. Stay busy in school by studying even if there isn’t a test or exam.Participate in outside school activities. Basically, don’t waste your time. Secondly, ‘manage your time’. If you have eight classes and you have homework for half of them, spread the work out and do one subject per night. Don’t cram everything into one night because you won’t do as well on each assignment and more than likely, they will not be due the same day. Thirdly, ‘avoid the slip-slide’. Everyone needs an agenda or schedule to help organise their lives. You can plan your week or keep track of important appointments or record a date that you need to remember. Finally, ‘turn on your brain’. Use or review the information you have learned over the year so you don’t forget it.I am thankful for Student Empowerment Day. I feel that I can be more prepared for the end-of-the-year exams and pass them with flying colours! People of Bermuda, remember, “That at CedarBridge Academy where excellence is valued, we cultivate Bermuda’s Achievers!”
