Visiting Europe was a major life experience
My experience of Europe was a memorable one. The first place we visited was London; a beautiful place to visit. We went to and saw a lot of cool places like Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, Covent Gardens, Westminster Abbey and Hyde Park.We also saw the London Eye, Tower of London where the ‘Crown Jewels’ are on display and Madame Tussaud’s Museum which were my favourite places to visit. I was mesmerised by the spectacular displays in the Tower of all the Queen’s many jewelled crowns, robes, swords and dining ware. We could not take any pictures but seeing was enough for me.In the London Eye we all thought it would take forever for us to get on it and we were contemplating if it was worth our while to wait in line so long to get on it. But the line moved quickly and we were so glad that we had waited. For it was such a brilliant view. We were so high above the ground and everything seemed so small below us. It was great because it took thirty minutes to go around and that gave us plenty of time to take pictures.Madame Tussauds was the best and largest museum I have ever been to. I was surrounded by Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber, Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Phillip and, of course, Barack Obama, President of the United States of America. I was in leadership heaven.Four days later we were on a train ride to Paris on one of the fastest trains in the world, the Eurostar. In Paris, I think my favourite places were the Eiffel Tower and the church ‘Sacre Coeur de Montmartre’. This huge church was very pretty with numerous statues of Jesus, Mary and angels everywhere. As a Catholic, I felt at home and thought this was what a real Catholic church was supposed to feel and look like. The night train to Barcelona was an interesting experience for me. The journey was twelve hours in a small compartment with four beds. It was a squeeze but I think we made it work. On arrival in Spain, there were many traditional and marvellous artistic buildings. The work of Gaudi was present in most of the buildings. I enjoyed listening to the tour guide tell of his life and how he was inspired. I was disheartened to learn that he would not be alive to see the completion of the ‘La Sagrada Familia’ project. My funniest moment in Barcelona was being scared by two human gargoyles on the Las Ramblas stretch. The ‘ La Boquira’ market was very appealing with its colourful arrangements of fruit, vegetables and meat. I could not resist stopping at the candy and fruit stalls to savour and enjoy a fruit strawberry-mango smoothie. Of course, we saw Camp Nou, the home of Barcelona Football Club filled with the team’s jerseys, trophies and cups and history. During this major life experience, I constantly thought of my parents and I think I would like to take them with me one day so we can enjoy Europe as a family.
