Class’ toy sale raised $500

Toys for all: Harrington Sound Primary School P4 students collected toys to sell to raise funds for children less fortunate than they.

By Cree Dunn, Age 8It’s Christmas time and a time for giving! The Primary 4 students and teachers of Harrington Sound Primary decided to put on a fundraiser to raise money to donate to HOTT1075’s wish list program for children in need.At this time of year the students felt they should help less fortunate children as they had heard about families that were unable to buy their little ones presents. Lots of parents have lost their jobs, so are struggling, and the children decided they wanted to help in a small way.The students set up a toy and book store in Ms Firkte Ming’s class to sell items donated from their homes. The students brought in tons of toys and books to sell that they no longer needed but were in excellent condition. The store was open during lunch and recess for students to buy gifts, and every day students waited outside to be able to buy a special holiday gift. Prices ranged from fifty cents to a dollar each. What a deal! The P4 team raised more than $500 in four days; that was more than what they expected.“We started with no goal,” Ms Ming explained, “but by the second day the students were so excited we set targets to reach and other students started bringing in toys for the sale.”Ms Ming continued: “I have enjoyed seeing students walk in and out of my room to buy gifts. It is the perfect time as it is getting close to Christmas. I would like to thank parents, students and the P4 classes for their help.”Mrs. Bridgewater, the school secretary added, “It is wonderful when you can give to someone other than yourself. In the Bible it says it’s more blessed to give than to receive.”Ms. Ming’s students said they had so much fun organizing the store and would love to do it again. Ms. Ming and her students did a fantastic job! We would like to do this more often to help those less fortunate and look forward to our next community fundraiser.
