Seaweed carries trash ashore, students clear it away

Helping hand: Francis Patton student Eusebio King-Mills helps his teacher Ms Florence Sharpe-Trott navigate her way through the sargassum weed at Shelly Bay beach during a joint KBB clean-up between the P6 students and HSBC employees yesterday.

The P6 students of Francis Patton Primary School travelled to Shelly Bay Beach on the afternoon of Thursday, January 12, 2012, to clean up the trash on the beach. HSBC employees joined Francis Patton’s P6s to clean up the beach and the field. The HSBC employees wanted to assist with cleaning up the beach and field. Francis Patton has adopted the Shelly Bay Beach and park. We picked up all the metal, broken glass, ropes, fishing nets and lines, plastic and pieces of paper. We sifted through a lot of smelly seaweed to see if there was any other trash in it. The students did this to make a difference, and to show people that they shouldn’t litter.
