School plans to bury a time capsule for its 350th Anniversary

A moment in time: As part of Warwick Academy?s 350th anniversary, students, parents, alumni and friends of the school are being offered the opportunity to place something in the time capsule to be opened 50 years hence.

Warwick Academy has been recently celebrating 350 years of existence, since 1662, and to help celebrate the anniversary, organisers have decided to bury a time capsule.A time capsule is a huge metal box that they fill with letters written by students, pictures and everything else that happens this year including the leaflet for the Primary production The Keymaster. The time capsule will be opened in 50 years’ time on the 400th anniversary of the school. The time capsule was donated by Walter Sharpe who is an alumni and his family have attended the school.Warwick Academy is planning to bury the time capsule on December 14 2012.But before that day they are going to sell space in the time capsule to the public and the students in the school for people to add their personal letters, maybe to grandchildren and things you want to be discovered in 50 years.A singl page will be sold for $3.50. To buy a small space in the time capsule you have to pay $35, and if you want a medium sized space you have to pay $350 and if you want a big box you have to pay $3500.In 50 years time the time capsule will be dug up and opened. Anything addressed to students or teachers or anyone else who is known will be given to the addressee.A few people have told us what they would put in the time capsule. Here what one of them has said: “I would put in a book because in 50 years time books might be replaced by electronic books so I would definitely put in a book in the time capsule.”
