Class of 2012: Thirty-seven young people graduated from the Bermuda High School this year, and are looking forward to the next stage in their lives.

Bermuda High School graduated 37 students, nine of whom were boys, on May 25. During the ceremony there were several inspirational speeches. The first speech was given by the chairman of the board, Mr Joel P. Schaefer. He gave the graduating class several questions to think about as they move forward in life: “Ask yourself what you have learned about yourself during your education?” and “What values define you?” He also quoted B.H.S alumni, Jessica Lewis, who recently qualified for the Para Olympics and talked about her quest for qualifying for the Games in London: “Don’t be afraid to dream big”The second speech was given by the Head of School, Mrs Linda Parker. She included a poem by Peter Dale Wimbrow called, The One in the Glass. The message was no matter what you do in life, in the end you must be able to look at yourself in the mirror and be happy. The next speaker was a former Royal Air Force doctor, and now practitioner with Somers Medical Practice, Dr Joanna L Sherratt-Wyer. She emphasised to the graduates the importance of always embracing change and new experiences based on what she had learned after graduating. This really gave the graduates an idea of what to expect for their future and to keep an open mind when unexpected change comes into their life.Along with the speakers, there were also three beautiful pieces performed by the students, including a violin piece, an all-girl a cappella group and a performance from the IB Musical Ensemble. In addition, there were external awards and scholarships from various companies and organisations presented. The students head off to attend a wide range of universities from Leiden in Holland to Stern Business School in New York and an equally wide range of programmes from Fine Arts to Neuro-Science. There was one student who stood out for having the highest IB score predicted, Sarah Hopkin. She will be going off to study material science at Oxford University.
