Students prove they’re up for the fitness challenge

Inter School Fitness Challenge winners: CedarBridge Academy. The team members were; Jahlea Ible Burchall, Rodnyka Brown Evans, Nathaniel McKensie, Jair Duke, Chrisante Bean, Alai Wolfe, Shannon Davis, Sentoine Lambert, Lenay Place, Sharri Perkins, Shynne Postlethwaite, Reshay Trott, Eshe Rayner, Tyrique Simmons, and Genesis Williams.

For the past six weeks students from the senior and middle schools have been challenging themselves to live a healthier and fitter lifestyle. Since October their alarm clocks have been going off at 4.30am on a Monday and Wednesday so they can make it to boot camps at the BFA Field.Global Arts Entertainment in conjunction with BF&M were the organisers of the 3rd Annual Inter School Fitness Challenge. This year over 400 students participated in the Challenge from senior and middle schools across the island.The winners of the Senior School Challenge win a free trip to represent the country at The United Nations International School Conference in March 2013. The Conference is hosted at the United Nations in New York. The overall school winner gets to keep the plaque for a year!Individuals for the senior school challenge were marked on attendance and fitness tests which were carried out on day one and the last day of the challenge. Students were separated in to two teams. Team A was for students needing to lose body weight. Team B was for students wishing to increase their fitness level.The winners of the Middle School Beep Test Challenge proudly take back to school the Middle School Beep Test Trophy. BF&M also gave all of the winners BF&M goodie bags.Overall School WinnerSeven senior schools participated in the Challenge. The students met every Monday and Wednesday morning at 5.30am at the BFA Field for an early morning boot camp. They met on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons after school at The Fusion Fitness Centre (Cedar Park Arcade) for further boot camps which included dance, cardio, yoga and inter school face offs. The Inter School Face Offs were hosted at Victoria Park. The Face Offs saw the children mixed up from different school put in to teams and complete fitness challenges.The overall Challenge winners were the CedarBridge Academy team, based upon their attendance numbers and overall individual results. The CedarBridge team were: Jahlea Ible Burchall, Rodnyka Brown Evans, Nathaniel McKensie, Jair Duke, Chrisante Bean, Alai Wolfe, Shannon Davis, Sentoine Lambert, Lenay Place, Sharri Perkins, Shynne Postlethwaite, Reshay Trott, Eshe Rayner, Tyrique Simmons and Genesis Williams.Top Three Results:1st — CedarBridge Academy2nd Saltus3rd Bermuda Institute

Students from a number of schools work on their fitness at one of the boot camp sessions. Four-hundred students took part in the Third Annual Inter School Fitness Challenge.
Warwick Academy's Gabriella Arnold won the Team B Group division having increased the number of push ups she did from 26 on day one to 54 on the last day of the challenge. She also incrseased her sit ups from 25 to 52 over the course of the Challenge.
Berkeley Institute student Ari Minors, pictured far left, won the Team A Group division, after successfully losing 15.6lbs in weight.
Individual winners

Ari Minors from Berkeley Institute won the Team A Group. Fifty students made up from Saltus, Warwick Academy, Bermuda Institute, Mount St Agnes, Bermuda High School, CedarBridge Academy and Berkeley Institute participated in this Group. The objective of the team was to lose body weight. Ari lost a total of 15.6 pounds in six weeks.

To achieve her commendable result, Ari started out on day one doing 10 push ups and 28 sit ups. On the final day she had increased her push ups to 27 and her sit ups to 29. As well as her weight loss, the Berkeley student lost a combined 14 inches from chest, waist and hips measurements.

Sixty students made up from Satlus, Warwick Academy, Bermuda Institute, Mount St Agnes, Bermuda High School, CedarBridge Academy and Berkeley Institute participated in this group. The student’s objective was to increase their fitness level. Students were marked on attendance and their increase in fitness was calculated with how many push ups and/or sit ups they could do in one minute.Gabrielle started out on day one doing 26 push ups and 25 sit ups, by the final day she was doing 54 push ups and 52 sit ups. She lost three pounds in weight and a combined three inches from her chest, waist and hips measurements.
