Somerset Primary pupils all abuzz at Careers Fair

On Thursday last week Somerset Primary was a buzz of excitement.

Mrs. Shannalee Aberdeen the School Counselor coordinated a Career Fair for the children.

A variety of community workers spoke to the children, ages five through 11 about their career roles and how they apply certain work ethics in their career. The community workers also explained how basic skills such as mathematics, reading, writing, listening and speaking were used in their careers.

Young Observer attended the Career Fair. We asked the children what they had learned from their experiences.

Ms Martin’s P1 Class Ambulance Service

Ashley Burrows: “I learned about saving people.”

Evan: “I learned how to rescue people.”

Jayunae Bailey: “I learned how they pick people up so fast.”

Jai: “I learned about the ambulance.”

Paige Pringle: “I learned not to shoot.”

Riley: “I learned about the truck.”

Zahniyah Darrell: “I heard the siren.”

Jamon: “I learned about the truck.”

Andrew: “I learned about the siren.”

Trishanjeet Ghose: “I learned that needles hurt.”

Cyannah: “I learned how they pick up people.”

London: “I learned not to drive fast.”

Lucian: “I learned about needles.”

Zaeden Stewart: “They let us ride their motor cycles.”

India Bascome: “The police radar showed me how fast I ran.”

Azariah Thompson: “I talked in the police car microphone.”

Bethany Gibbons: “They let us listen to their radios.”

Enrique Mendes: “We got to wear their hats.”

Doers’ P2 Class — The Fire Service

Yuri Fubler: “I learned about the hose.”

Isabella Swan: “I learned that fire fighters help people in an acciden.t”

Xavier: “I learned about the big scissors.”

Leonardo: “I learned that fire fighters have air pressure in their trucks.”

Paris Mitchell Robinson: “I learned that when a person is under a car they put this think under it and they pump it up and they hold this button and it pumps up.”

Malika Moore: “I learned about the hose.”

Jadon: “I learned that the hose can spray far.”

Skye Simons “I learned that fire fighters use air pressure and balloons.”

Sinai Williams: “I learned that the fire truck goes fast.”

Amber Simons: “I learned that they get people from under cars in accidents.”

Tahjanye Lambe “I learned about the shots and I passed them around.”

Anaya “I learned that Mrs. Berry needs to be fit to teach her class.”

Dynasty: “I learned that Mrs. Berry is a fitness trainer at Sandys 360.”

Jermae: “I learned that Mrs. Berry helps you do push ups.”

Amara Richards: “I learned how to do push ups, sit ups and squats.”

Kaley: “I learned to be never late and to be fit.”

Triston: “I learned to exercise every day.”

Gihle: “I learned that if you are a fitness instructor you have to be fit.”

Matthew “I learned that I should eat healthy so I can stay fit.”

Malano Williams: “I learned that she helps people get fit.”

Mason Robinson: “I learned that fitness trainers have to keep gym property clean.”

Harry Berry: “I learned from my mommy to stay fit.”

Mia Robinson: “I learned from the sonographer that if a lady gets too many ultrasounds she could get sick very bad.”

Kemiyah: “I learned about human bones and how babies look like at first.”

Ianei Bascome: “I learned that when a baby is in its mommy’s stomach the mommy’s stomach is like a water balloon.”

Desnee Bascome: “I learned that a sonographer checks your belly to see if your baby is healthy and good. The stomach has a lot of water in it.”

Jaelyn Doyke: “You learned that it takes four to five years to be a podiatrist.”

Mya Jones: “I learned that Dr. Binns owns his foot clinic.”

Teja Watson: “I learned that a podiatrist is a doctor for ankles and feet.”
