Five students benefit from Shakespeare Festival scholarships

The Bermuda Shakespeare Schools Festival enables local high school students to perform the works of William Shakespeare in a professional theatre setting and supports further studies in the dramatic arts.The scholarships are meant to promote and to support further education in the dramatic arts. They are specifically offered to students who have participated in the Festival.This year’s scholarships are awarded to:Katie Witkowski is 17 years old. She receives $1,000. Katie attends Saltus Grammar School. She will be attending university to study drama this fall.Sixteen-year-old Marcus Smith will receive $1,260 and attends Saltus Grammar School. Marcus is due to take vocal lessons at the Bermuda School of Music this summer.Rowan Vickers is represented by his mother, Jane Vickers, will receive $5,000. The 19-year-old attends The Juilliard School.Western University student Nathaniel Sussman, aged 18 years, was represented by his brother, Andrew.He will be receiving $2,000 to continue toward a Certificate of Theatre Arts.Hailey Manuel, represented by her mother, Nancy Manuel will be receiving $2000.The 18-year-old attends York University where she is studying for a BFA in Theatre Arts.
