A new national youth group named the Bermuda Youth Association (BYA) has signified its launch by delivering stationery supply folders to fellow students in need. The BYA was formed at The XL Bermuda Youth Conference earlier this year. Approximately 50 students meet two times per week. Its student membership has representatives from all the senior schools (Public and Private). The groups mandate is to help improve the quality of life for youth in Bermuda. They have raised 600 well equipped bags, thanks to approximately 60 sponsors. The BYA achieved this monumental task by joining forces with the registered charity The West End, East End and Central Community. The charity is in its 18th year of delivering hampers to needy and elderly families over the Christmas period. The BYA say that they are very pleased to have reached their objective on their very first initiative attempt. They add that they endeavour to repeat this process after the Christmas holidays.Bermuda Youth Association member Ryan Robinson told us: “It is unfortunate that there is such a large need for simple things like pencils, pens and other school supplies. However, I was just happy to see many other young people helping out each other with such dedication and goodwill.”Community Service Representative Karimah Dill, on behalf of the WEEE community, said: ”We were glad to assist and many thanks to our sponsors for embracing the programme”.
