Seasonal cheer at BHS
The Bermuda High School for Girls held its Annual Winter Concert in a packed Queen Elizabeth Hall, featuring a host of solo, ensemble and orchestral performers drawn from almost every year group at the school between Primary Four and the Senior Years.
More than 100 children took part in an array of musical genres stretching from traditional Christmas Carols to a senior choir singing the modern “One Thousand Years” from the Twilight Series.
Parents were entertained by a host of different instruments including guitars, flutes, violins, clarinets, saxophones, cellos and recorders.
This has been an exciting musical term for the youngsters at BHS. The girls have made it a practice of performing for parents and children as they arrive at the Serpentine Ramp in the morning.
“It brightens the day when we see the youngsters there playing for us as we arrive” said Ms. Jennifer Burland Adams, Director of Advancement at Bermuda High School for Girls. “It’s such a lovely sight.”
The senior wind ensemble performed recently at Tucker House in St. George during the National Trust Walkabout. They were also first on stage at the Cablevision Concert held on the grounds of the Cabinet Office last week.
In her remarks at the end of the concert Head of School Mrs Linda Parker congratulated the teachers and children for their hard work leading up to the concert. She also praised candidates from the School who emerged from the recent ABRSM examinations with passes in Distinction and Merit in their instruments.
The youngsters are already planning their next special concert which will take place in February for Valentine’s Day.
