Students enjoy whirlwind UK university tour

King's College London

A group of Saltus SGY 1 (S3) students toured ten United Kingdom universities in February.

Saltus has organised this annual trip for almost a decade, and it has resulted in students attending a variety of UK universities including: Imperial College London, King’s College London, University College London, Loughborough University, University of Warwick, University of Southampton, Kingston University, and University of the West of England (Bristol).

The group was led by Mrs Nicole Chichon-De Silva, Director of Guidance and Development, accompanied by Mr Jon Beard (deputy head) and Mrs Tanja Walker (Year Coordinator for SGY 1).

As in previous years, this trip was indeed a busy one with the students visiting ten universities in just five days.

With Kingston-Upon-Thames (Surrey) as their base, the group followed a tight schedule visiting the following: University of Reading, University of Surrey, Kingston University, University of the West of England (Bristol), Nottingham Trent University, Oxford Brookes University, the University of Kent, Royal Holloway University, the University of Southampton, and Portsmouth University.

There were tours at each university and meetings with the university’s Admissions Department to discuss examination requirements and course options.

Students were able to squeeze in a sightseeing trip to London and some attended a Fulham FC home game against Birmingham. It was a weary but happy group that returned to Bermuda.

The SGY1 students found the trip very helpful indeed.

One student said: “It was a real eye-opening trip.

“I now have a really good idea what universities are looking for.

“It was a great experience, very informative and a good insight into university life and the university experience.

“The trip helped me finally recognise what I am looking for in a school and going to a university and seeing and feeling what it is like is much better than just researching online.

“Universities that I looked at online before we left and I thought I wouldn’t like are now my top-three choices.”
