Warwick Academy’s Year 12 art students have been busy painting to help fellow pupils to stay at the school.

The Warwick Academy Alumni Association is holding an Art Auction and Wine Tasting on April 17 and the funds raised will go towards bursaries for students of alumni who attend the school.

Dan DeSilva, art teacher and alumnus, asked his Year 12 students if they would consider painting a piece and donate it to the cause.

All of them jumped on board and created a piece in addition to their regular course work. The results are an amazing, diverse collection that are now on display in the ACE Gallery. In addition to the students’ art there are wonderful pieces that have been donated by local artists who are either alumni, related to alumni or friends of Warwick Academy who kindly joined the cause. There are pieces by Jonah Jones, Sheilagh Head, Rhona Emmerson, Molly Godet, Emma Ingham, Tina Hutchings, Steven Master, Maria-Evers-Smith, Michele Smith, Lee Petty and Wendell Hollis, to name a few.

There are more than 50 pieces of beautiful original art in watercolour, acrylic or oil, along with limited edition prints and photography.

Before the art auction, alumnus John Sharpe, of Two Rock Wines, will be hosting a wine tasting.

Everyone will be able to try six wines carefully selected for the evening. Two Rock Wines has a unique collection of wines that are sourced from around the world. So come out, drink some wine and buy some beautiful pieces of art.

The event is on April 17, with the wine tasting at 5.30pm. Tickets are $25. The auction will begin at 7pm and is free of charge. Both events will be in the ACE Gallery, where the art can be viewed from now until the auction.
