I am Bermuda: BHS poetry students share work

I am the turtles swimming around you.

I am the lizards climbing up the trees to your house.

They climb like a monkey with tiny hands and legs, with green scaly body as green as trees.

I am the history of the Bermuda Sea Venture.

I am the dolphins that show you tricks in Dockyard.

I am the road of homes you live on.

I am the Cup Match games you sit at for hours.

I am the people that walk on Front Street to work.

The hearing of shoes tapping the road as they pass dozens of shops.

I am the beaches with pink sand that you watch the sunset on.

Yelling of children as you eat on your towel relaxing like never before I am …

The tree frogs that whistle in the night.

A world of such grace and much gentle touches …

I AM!

TAYLOR SOUSA

I am the beach where my feet melt with the sand.

I am the trees that reach for the sun at nature reserves the sun hits me like an arrow as sharp as a sword.

I am the people who greet each other like we are family.

I am the water sports that are always fun.

I am the weather that never seems to rain in the summer.

I am DELICIOUS that always makes me the best sandwich.

I am the fish at the Aquarium that swim to the glass and you see my scales gleam as bright as lightning.

I am Dockyard that has dolphins that jump. The dolphins that jump as high as Icarus flew to the sun … I am

The school in which we learn.

A parakeet milkshake on a hot summer day.

LARA BACKEBURG

I am.

I am the warm pink sand at the beach.

I am the crystal clear ocean that splashes in your face.

The ocean is as blue as the sky.

The ocean is as clear as a window.

I am the heat of the summer.

I am the pink, blue and orange sunset.

I am the whales that flap their tails at you to say hello.

I am the dolphins that jump in the air.

I am the palm trees that sway in the wind.

The palm trees sway in the wind as if they are dancing to the beautiful harmonies that the wind is whistling.

I am the cold snowballs that you eat to cool off in the summer heat.

The snowballs are as cold as winter snow that you would make snow angels in … I am.

The Bermudiana flower that everyone loves.

A hidden treasure.

I am.

LAYLA WILLIAMS

I am.

I am Bermuda’s friendly culture.

I am the coral reefs filled with different forms of life,

Looking as brand new as a newly published book.

I am the blue ocean gleaming and sparkling from the sun’s reflection.

I am a quesadilla straight from Rosa’s grill.

I am the museum in the aquarium filled with facts about Bermuda.

I am all the sports of Bermuda.

I am a boat speeding over the water with wind rushing in my face.

As quick as a gold medal race car driver.

I am the aquarium’s peacocks.

Begging for your food as if they were dogs really wanting your hot food……..I am.

The shore dotted with clumps of pink sand and the sea stretched out to the horizon.

I am.
