UK team plans to search for top models in Bermuda
The hunt is on for Bermudian models in the wake of Southampton beauty Deandra Brangman’s win at Top Model Worldwide.
The UK group plans to send a Top Model team to Bermuda in July for the Four Season City Fashion Festival 21-year-old Ms Brangman has been booked as the lead model for that event.
Top Model’s Danielle Deakin said: “In addition, we plan to do shoots and press while in Bermuda, and hope to launch the TMWW 2012 search from Bermuda, as the home of the current title holder.
“This is still yet to be formally finalised but we hope to have something concrete in place by the weekend.”
Ms Brangman, who studies in the US, will serve as the face of the July 16 festival.
Top Model plans to send some of its scouts to the Island at that time, to scope out Bermuda’s talent.
In the meantime, Ms Brangman is booked to return to London in May for photo shoots with the professional model search group.
Back home, the Corporation of Hamilton is organising a model search of its own to promote this summer’s show.
“We’re going to do model calls in May for the fashion festival,” said events and marketing coordinator Thomas Lightbourne.
Other models to take part in the show will be picked from two auditions, the dates of which are to be announced next week.
The week of festivities in Hamilton will also celebrate arts, families and food.
“I’m amped about it. It’s going to be really fun,” Mr Lightbourne said. “I know Deandra and her brother Deon, so it was great to see her win.”
Ms Brangman, who started out modelling in Bermuda while a student at the Berkeley Institute, made headlines after taking top place in the March 27 Top Model show at the London Hilton.
Stepfather Raymond Ming said: “All kinds of good things have been happening. We’ve been getting dozens of calls. Deandra has really opened up Bermuda to Top Model with this. Having her featured in July couldn’t be better for Bermuda. It’s a venue not just for tourism, but for others to participate.”
