CASE FIVE: KIMWANDAE WALKERAge: 35Gang affiliation: An associate of Parkside.Date of murder: Good Friday, April 2, 2010Time: 2.15pmLocation: Playing field at Victor Scott Primary School, The Glebe Road, Pembroke.What happened: Police describe this as one of the “most heinous” murders in recent times, as it was carried out in front of scores of children, including Mr Walker’s own young son and daughter. He was flying a kite with them when two men rode onto the school field on a motorcycle and shot at him. According to eyewitnesses, he fell to the ground, got up and was chased to the south east corner of the field where he ran behind a van. He was followed by the riders and shot seven times in his head and body until dead. The riders fled the field on their bike and exited the school via the parking lot. They drove up The Glebe Road and onto St Monica’s Road and have never been caught.Victim died from: Multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body.Other casualties: NoneWeapon: A semi-automatic firearm, using 9mm ammunition, which has been linked to a string of other shootings, including the murders of James Lawes in March 2010 and Raymond Troy (Yankee) Rawlins in August 2010.Description of suspects: Two men riding a light-coloured 125cc scooter. One wore a green scarf over his face and one possibly had scarring.Alleged motive: None revealed by police but Mr Walker’s ties with Parkside and the firearm which was used suggest he was targeted by rival gang 42. Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro says police have a hypothesis as to the motive but can’t make it public.Retaliatory attacks: None reported. Two days after the murder, on Easter Sunday, a 39-year-old man and a 17-year-old schoolgirl were shot outside Western Stars Community Club, on St John’s Road, Pembroke. The gun used to kill Mr Walker and others was linked to this attack.Arrests: Three men were arrested and later bailed pending further inquiries. While they were still in custody, police urged the public to come forward, warning: “Without witness testimony combined with some forensic evidence, the persons in custody will be released from custody without charge.”Witness appeal: Police say the investigation has been a difficult one. There were more than 100 witnesses attending the family fun day on the field in clear, sunny weather but few have come forward. Detectives believe that although the suspects made attempts to disguise themselves, they would have been recognisable to some. They are urging anyone who thinks they may know the killers to make contact. Mr Walker’s mother made her own appeal in November 2010, urging witnesses: “Please speak up.
