Stripping Terry of captaincy was right decision

First of all, I’d like to say my sympathy goes out to those families who lost someone during this week’s football tragedy in Egypt.

For those who don’t know, at least 74 people were killed and hundreds injured after fans rushed the field in the seaside city of Port Said following an upset victory by the home team.

To have so many people die at a match is truly tragic and is awful or the game. Hopefully they can get to the bottom of caused the stampede to occur, and why the police largely failed to intervene.

I know in football there’s always rivalries between certain clubs but it should never spill over into actual violence, and at the end of the day clubs have to be responsible for their supporters.

However, the supporters are to blame as well as the security who must also be held accountable.

I see John Terry has been stripped of the captaincy of England, which I feel is the right decision considering all that’s going on.

He is due to stand trial in July over racial abuse allegations after an incident with QPR's Anton Ferdinand.

Terry, who lost the captaincy once previously, has entered a plea of not guilty to the charge.

I don’t believe he’s guilty but you don’t want all this attention on your captain and until he goes to trial he should take a step back and deal with his personal issues.

I don’t know whether he should play at Euro 2012; I don’t know how England will go about solving that issue, but if they were to have enough nerve to say ‘you can’t play John until this is sorted out’, then that would be fine by me. However, I doubt that will happen.

Luis Suarez is back for Liverpool after his suspension and is coming back at the right time. The club are playing some good football right now and he can only help them.

Let’s hope he has learned his lesson and leave it behind him and move forward on the pitch.

The game of the week will be at Stamford Bridge when Chelsea welcome Manchester United and it will be anyone’s guess as to how this one will go, but if anyone can win at the Bridge it will be United.

It is up to Chelsea to set the pace and dictate early on how the game will be played, a lot of teams have gone to the Bridge and got a win this season and they are under more pressure because they are at home.

In order for you to be a great side you have to win on any pitch, home and away, and Chelsea have had mixed fortunes in both departments, having good win on the road but also losing to the like of Arsenal, Aston Villa and others at home.

Although they aren’t playing like the Chelsea that was under Jose Mourinho’s watch they can get the job done and it will be interesting to see how this one goes, but teams are confident now in going there and getting points off of them.

United can rightly beat them tomorrow, they are a team that is always in the limelight because of something, but it’s more about their prestige and pride that will more often than not get them over the hump.
