Tearful cruise passenger is fined for drugs
A cruise ship passenger broke down in tears yesterday as he was charged with cannabis possession.
American Jonathan Cruz was a passenger on board the Norwegian Star.
The 26-year-old was arrested at Heritage Wharf in Dockyard on Wednesday evening on his return to the ship.
Customs officers and a canine unit discovered 12 grams of marijuana in his cabin during a random search.
Mr Cruz tearfully apologised in court and said: Im sorry. I know I was not supposed to do it but my mom has stage four cancer and my dad just got an injury to his eye.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined him $800 for the offence.
