Wells facing the game of his life

Asenal's Jack Wilshere goes over the top of West Bromwich Albion's Youssuf Mulumbu during Saturday's English Premier match. England international Wilshere will be likely in the line-up against Nahki Wells' Bradford City in tonight's League Cup clash.

Nahki Wells and his Bradford City team-mates will look to claim another Premier League scalp when they host Arsenal in a Capital One Cup quarter-final clash today at Valley Pride.League One side City reached the last eight of the League Cup for the first time in more than two decades after prevailing 4-2 in a thrilling penalty shoot-out with Premier side Wigan Athletic in the previous round. And they will now look to repeat the dose when they step onto the pitch in front of their own supporters at Coral Windows Stadium to face Arsene Wenger’s Gunners.Wells, who is City’s current leading goalscorer with 13 goals already this term, anticipates a tough match with a Gunners side that have not won any silverware for seven years but is optimistic his team can pull off another upset if they stick to the game plan.“We know it’s not going to be easy, but in football you never know what can happen and hopefully we can be the giant killers of this competition,” Wells told The Royal Gazette last night. “All we can do is go out there and try to do the best we can and be giant killers. We showed against Wigan that as long as we stick to the game plan we can achieve.”As underdogs, Wells said City had nothing to lose and everything to gain.“It’s no pressure on us because we weren’t expected to make it this far in the competition so in a way it’s just a bonus for our hard work,” he said. “This is a game for us to relish and an opportunity you might never get again in your career. It’s been a big buzz around here and we are motivated to play in front of the camera at the highest level.”Wells was only 11-years old the last time Arsenal visited Bradford 12 years ago when both clubs were in the Premier Division. That game, which featured the likes of Thierry Henry and Ashley Cole in the Gunners’ line-up, ended in a 1-1 stalemate. The Bermuda international will go into today’s cup clash keen to put an end to a three-game goal drought.“I don’t have any self doubts that I can’t score against them,” he said. “I put a high demand on myself to score goals and it’s more or less going out there and playing well because the goals are going to come regardless of who we play against.“We know chances are going to be restricted because it’s not like we are playing a League Two side in which we get a lot of opportunities. So it’s about being clinical and on our day we’ve shown that we can be and hopefully it’s another one of those days.”In the lead-up to today’s cup clash Wenger has indicated he will field a strong squad rather than rely on younger players which he has done in recent seasons.“We know that Arsenal haven’t had the best of results lately and they are coming out to win the match because realistically it’s a cup they have a good chance of winning,” Wells said. “But at the end of the day you want to play against the best players and against the best teams. You don’t want to say you played against Arsenal’s reserve team, so we are expecting a strong team from them and we just have to go out there and do the best we can.”
