All PRCs should be accorded status

July 14, 2014

Dear Sir,

I’m in agreement with Arcy Dubya (letter July 5) that All PRCs should be accorded status, not on a selective basis or on current address. A PRC is a PRC regardless.

Many PRC’s have left because they do not have full rights including the ability to vote. Financially we would benefit from having them return.

In my case I started bring Canadian companies to Bermuda in the 1960s. In 1973 I moved to Bermuda to run a captive management company. In 1976 I was on the voters list, but was dis-enfranchised by some English politician before the next election. The UBP did not fight the disenfranching of many, many long term residents. I was a hustler and chased new business through many countries, the UK, Europe, Australia and others. I brought at least 25 companies who otherwise wouldn’t have been here. Each company employs 2 1/2 or more Bermudians between, auditors, lawyers, management companies, bankers and government staff.

I have Bermudian children and grandchildren and yet I’m still not eligible for status as my current time here does not meet the new requirements! Given current government debt OBA would do well to encourage absent PRC’s to return by according full status to them all. Doing so would improve the economy significantly

I look forward to being able to enter with my family, under the “Bermudians Only” queue.
