Minors banned by Eastern Counties

Minors, right, is barred from attending Eastern Counties matches for the rest of the season and has been placed on probation for 12 months

Otis Minors, the president of St David’s County Cricket Club, has been banned from the Eastern Counties Cup for the rest of the season after an altercation with the umpires in the previous round.

Steven Douglas, the Eastern Counties Cricket Association president, confirmed yesterday that Minors will miss today’s second-round clash between cup-holders Cleveland County and Bailey’s Bay, as well as the final on August 30, when Flatts are the challengers.

Furthermore, the St David’s president has been placed on a year’s probation and forced to write formal letters of apology to the four clubs that make up the Eastern Counties, including his own, the association itself and the Bermuda Cricket Umpires Association.

The Eastern Counties disciplinary committee, which comprises Harold Millett as chairman, Gilbert Trott, the former president of Flatts, and Stephen Outerbridge, who held a similar position at Bailey’s Bay, found Minors guilty of committing a Level Two offence in the wake after St David’s shock defeat by Cleveland at Sea Breeze Oval on July 19.

Minors was summoned before the committee to face charges of indirect physical abuse, more specifically kicking over a trash can with its contents scattered in proximity to umpires Emmerson Carrington and Oscar Andrade.

Minors pleaded guilty to the charges against him and has already issued the letters of apology.

“We followed our code of conduct,” Douglas said. “The hearing was held the Thursday after the match and was based upon the guidelines of the Eastern Counties’ Code of Conduct.

“He [Minors] was summoned for the offence, the offence was heard, he was suspended for the next two matches, given probation for a year and asked to write a letter of apology to all of the parties involved. He did it the next day after the hearing.”
