Bermuda swept aside

On target: Todd

Bermuda suffered a heavy defeat in their opening group game of the Women’s Caribbean Cup after losing 5-1 to Haiti in Trinidad & Tobago yesterday.

Naquita Robinson’s side, who qualified for the final round of the tournament by winning their qualifying group in Turks & Caicos in May, were three goals down at half-time.

After the break Bermuda successfully stopped the rot and held firm until in the 83rd minute when Haiti, who also won their qualifying group, added a fourth.

Bermuda did at least register a goal when striker Shauntae Todd struck her fifth goal of the competition late on, only for the Islanders to concede again before the final whistle.

Bermuda return to action tomorrow against an in-form Jamaica at 6pm Bermuda time. Jamaica beat Puerto Rico 4-1 in their opening game yesterday.

The top two teams of the group qualify for the Concacaf Women’s Championship, a qualifying tournament for the 2015 Women’s World Cup.
