Man banned for drunk driving

A St George’s man was banned from the road after admitting drinking and driving.

Andrew Larkins, 52, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court this morning to a single count of driving while impaired in the early hours of September 25.

The court heard that at around 1.30am officers were in patrol in Kings Square when they noticed Larkins walking towards Water Street, appearing unsteady on his feet.

Officers watched as he climbed onto a motorcycle and began to ride down York Street, swerving across the road.

Police stopped Larkins and, when talking to him, noticed that he appeared unsteady on his feet and his eyes were glazed. Asked if he had been drinking, Larkin told officers that he had two beers.

He was subsequently arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station, where he refused to provide officers with a breath sample.

Senior Magistrate Juan Wolffe fined Larkins $1,000, banning him from driving all vehicles for one year.
