Man pleads not guilty to cannabis charges

A 25-year-old man has denied having $1,800 worth of cannabis.

Lorance Webb Butterfield, of Verdmont Road, Smith’s, pleaded not guilty in Magistrates’ Court this morning to a string of drug charges.

He is accused of being in possession of cannabis, cannabis resin, codeine and dihydrocodeine with intent to supply.

Mr Butterfield is also charged with being in possession of items for use in the preparation of drugs, including a digital scale and a single-edged blade, and permitting the handling of a controlled drug.

Prosecutor Maria Sofianos told the court that the charges related to June 11 in Smith’s and that 36.06 grams of cannabis, worth $1,800, had been recovered.

Magistrate Archibald Warner granted Mr Butterfield $10,000 bail with one surety and ordered that he surrender his travel documents.
