Flight diverted after passenger becomes ill

A Delta aircraft diverted to Bermuda yesterday afternoon after a passenger needed emergency medical treatment.

The plane, which was on its way to JFK Airport in New York, landed at LF Wade International at 4.40pm.

The patient was treated on the runway by emergency medical technicians and then taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

The Delta flight was expected to refuel before it continued on its journey.

Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson, Sergeant Russann Francis, said: “At 4.14pm this afternoon, 911 Emergency Dispatch Center received a call regarding a medical emergency resulting in a flight diversion.

“Airport Duty Officer, Mr Mikkel Harris, stated the Delta Air Lines Flight 402, which was en route to JFK Airport in New York, landed at 4.40pm.

“The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service emergency medical technicians arrived on scene, where they treated the patient, prior to transporting them to King Edward Memorial Hospital.”
