‘Safe harbour’ for bullied, lonely students

A group of students has donated a purple bench to the Bermuda High School as a “safe harbour for students feeling lonely or bullied”.

The BHS Angels — a student group aimed at promoting compassion and kindness — set out to purchase, decorate and present the bench to their classmates.

The gift was unveiled on Tuesday, with the students donning purple clothing as part of the school’s Campaign for Kindness initiative.

A spokeswoman said: “The purple Friendship Bench, painted by the 26 current members of the BHS Angels, will be a constant reminder that BHS has zero tolerance for bullying and that it is easy to ‘be a friend, start a trend, lend a hand, take a stand’, and that we can all be the change we want to see in the world.”
