A Pembroke man has been granted bail after he admitted taking a motorcycle without consent and obstructing a police officer.

Jason Liburd, 44, pleaded guilty to the offences when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

The court heard that Liburd took a motorcycle from the Hamilton MarketPlace on March 7. The owner, who had left the keys in the bike, reported the matter to police.

Two days later, police were alerted by the complainant’s son that he had located the bike at the Union Gas Station in Pembroke.

The complainant took the keys, which Liburd had left in the bike.

Police officers arrived and saw Liburd standing next to the bike, but he started running when he saw the officers. He was caught and taken to Hamilton Police Station, where he admitted taking the bike.

Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered a social inquiry report and adjourned the matter to November 16 for sentencing.

Liburd was granted $3,000 bail on the condition that he report to the Department of Court Services.
